Arthur Remake?

Posted by Spat on March 25, 2011 in Movies, Rant |

When I first heard they were making a new version of Arthur, I was kind of upset.  I’m not a big fan of re-makes, or re-imaginings, and really didn’t think that Arthur needed to be redone.  Arthur 2 maybe…

But when they announced that Russel Brand would be playing Arthur, I changed my mind.  If there’s anyone who has a chance of turning this new Arthur into something awesome, it’s him.

So now I’m looking forward to it.

And now I really want an electro-magnetic bed!!

Anime’s Weird….

Posted by Spat on March 24, 2011 in Comics, Rant, Toys |

Coming out next week from DC Direct is the Ame-Comi Donna Troy as Wonder Woman Variant Figure:

Wonder Woman Variant

Ame Comi Wonder Woman Variant

I don’t know.  I’ve seen a lot of new Wonder Woman looks (they’re changing things up these days in the comic, and now there’s a new TV series coming), but aside for the “W” between her boobs (that I really had trouble noticing because… well… the cleavage), there’s nothing really Wonder Womany about it.

But maybe it’s just me.

Still, gotta love the Anime chicks!

Con Advice For Noobs

Posted by Spat on March 23, 2011 in Conventions, Cosplay, Rant |

Re-posting this from my website.  I thought it might be appropriate now that Con Season is starting to kick off!  Of course, 90% of these rules are directed towards attending DragonCon, but they can work for most other cons.

1 – Bring a camera. Either Video, or Still, or better yet, both! There are things you are going to see at these conventions that cannot be seen anywhere else. So always have your camera ready to shoot so you don’t miss anything.

2 – Bring extra batteries, film, memory sticks, tapes, whatever for the cameras. You will go through them quickly. Some people prefer cameras that take regular AA or AAA batteries because you can buy them anywhere if they run out, while others prefer the manufacturer’s rechargeable types because they last longer, and will save you money. Either way, keep a spare set on you at all times. And I’ve taken over 500 pics in one weekend, and unless you have a laptop to upload them to, you’ll need spare memory. It’s no fun when you have to go through the pics you’ve taken and decide which ones to delete so that you can take more later.

3 – If wearing a costume, bring a costume repair kit. Seems simple, but no matter how well made your costume is, there’s a good chance of breaking, tearing or doing some other damage to your costume. So bring a sewing kit, some safety pins, glue, rivets, hot glue, etc. You don’t have to carry it all with you, but should have it in your hotel room.

Electronic Squirrel Warfare

Posted by Spat on March 22, 2011 in Gadgets, Rant |

My war against the Squirrels has now gone to a whole new level!

I just picked up the Yard Guard!

Squirrel Deterrent

Yard Guard

It has a motion activated Infra Red sensor that emits an ultrasonic frequency that will supposedly keep Squirrels away.

For those who don’t know, I’ve been fighting a never ending battle with squirrels that have annexed my attic!  I’ve tried every possible way to keep them out, and somehow they always find a way back in!

We will see if this finally works!

EBay Hates Shipping!

Posted by Spat on March 21, 2011 in Cosplay, Gadgets, Movies, Props, Rant |

Or so it seems lately…

I used to sell a lot on eBay.  A LOT.  But that was before the fall of Western Civilization and the start of the recession.  I still sell on eBay, but it’s definitely not as profitable as it used to be.

Free Plug!  Check out my eBay store!!

For a while now eBay has been pushing free shipping.  They’ve done everything possible to get people to offer free shipping on their items, but I never fell for it.

Between the eBay fees for listing an item (now down to .20 per item for me, but up to $2.00 for some people), the Final Value Fee (9% of the sale price), and the PayPal fees (2.9% + .30), I’m losing about $13 per $100, give or take.  Of course, this doesn’t include the shipping.

If I offered free shipping, I’d have to raise the price of the items, and then I’d be paying more in fees, even though the shipping cost doesn’t go to me, it goes to the Post Office.

Now eBay is charging the Final Value Fee on the selling price for the item PLUS the shipping.

I know this is being done to screw over the people who charge .99 for a item and then $40 for shipping (to avoid the Final Value Fee), but it also screws over people who charge the right shipping for the right items.  Like me.

So thank you, eBay.  Thank you for making it even harder to make a little money on auctions.

Anyone know of a cheaper auction site?  Or, more importantly, anyone want to buy a used Phaser Rifle?

Old School? More like “No School…”

Posted by Spat on March 20, 2011 in Movies, Spat Videos |

Ok, here’s another video from back in the day.  This time, Rich Perrotta interviews an undead Paul Majewski.

Don’t worry, I only have about 300 more hours of these kinds of videos left to sort.  And sadly, we shot almost all of them over the course of three days in Staten Island.

So, I give you… Undead Society….
