5 Games to Keep for the PS3

Posted by Spat on April 3, 2011 in Reviews, Video Games |

As much fun as it is to burn through a new game and then return it and pick up a new one, there are a few games that are worth holding on to.

Some, because they have re-playability that is unrivaled. Others keep getting updates and are refreshed often enough to stay in your library for a long time.

In no particular order…

Rock Band 3

Rock Band 3

Rock Band 3

It came out right at the end of the home music fad, and assuming that you already had Rock Band 1 and 2 (or any of the other expansions) and a set of instruments, this game tops the list.  It’s a lot easier to play with a group of friends, has a HUGE library of songs (both included and downloadable), and even has access to some cool new instruments!  With the addition of the Keyboard and the stringed guitar, this is the elite game to have, but if you never got past buying Rock Band 1 or 2, you’re still good to go.  Just having any one game of the series with instruments means you’re ready just in case a group of friend’s stop by and want to ROCK!

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2

Rainbow Six Vegas 2

Rainbow Six Vegas 2

Not a new game by any means, but it still holds up well.  The Co-Op mode of the game, and the Terrorist Hunt Missions make this game a keeper.  It’s too much fun to jump in with a friend and go hunting through a Vegas casino hunting for terrorists in the vault!

Excellent weapon choices, lots of unlocks and a sweet promotion level give you incentive to keep killing so you can get better gear and weapons.

And Rainbow Six Vegas 2 has one of the best cover mechanics I’ve seen in a long time.  Fun to play solo, awesome with a buddy.

Grand Theft Auto 4

GTA 4

GTA 4

Another oldie, but goodie.  With hundreds of hours of gameplay between the main story and the 2 expansions (The Lost and the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony), this game gives you your money’s worth.  And against what you may have heard, the game isn’t all about jacking cars and shooting hookers in the face.

All three games have very detailed story lines, well developed characters, amazing voice acting, and just hours and hours of fun gaming.  And you get to jack cars and shoot hookers in the face.

And these days you can pick it up used pretty cheap!

Sid Meyer’s Civilization Revolution

CivRev

Civilization Revolution

One of the first Real Time Strategy games to come out for the PS3, CivRev stands the test of time, and is still as fun to play the 1,000th time as it was the 1st time.  With weekly updated game scenarios and a lot of updated add on packs available for download, this game never stops surprising.

There’s definitely something amazingly satisfying about rolling a tank army into a city that’s defended by guys with spears and arrows.  That never gets old!

I picked this game up when it first came out in 2008 and still play it at least once per week.  That’s what I call getting your money’s worth on a game!

Modern Warfare 2

Modern Warfare 2

Modern Warfare 2

The top of the Call of Duty franchise, Modern Warfare 2 got everything right.  The single player mission is AMAZING, with scenes that make you laugh, and scenes that literally make you cringe.

Add to that an incredible multiplayer universe, AND an awesome built in Co-Op mode, and this game will be tough to top.

Running around on the ground trying to escape enemy territory while a buddy is flying overhead in an AC-130 giving you cover is an experience not to be missed.

And that’s the beauty of this game that games before and after it have missed – insane Co-Op!

Well, there are my 5 picks, since most of them are a few years old, you should be able to pick up a used copy pretty cheap to try out.

Enjoy!
